Hi! I'm Candice!
My path into instructional design happened unexpectedly. I received a bachelors and a masters degree in history from the University of Central Florida and entered higher education as a college professor. Life took me out of that field after almost four years and found me in a handful of odd jobs before finally landing back in higher education in an administrative role. An incredible coworker of mine suggested I go back to school for instructional design, to which I replied, "What's that?"
Well, another masters degree later, I began my instructional design career. What I found in the field combined everything I loved, teaching, being creative, and inspiring learners. I am now once again in higher education on the educational side, just behind the scenes instead of in front of the classroom. Currently I work in Special VFR at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University as an instructional designer for the flight school. I get to use my instructional design talents along with my background working directly with students to create engaging and meaningful eLearnings that help develop future pilots.
My favorite part of what I do is testing the limits of design. I constantly challenge designer tools to create new and innovative experiences for students meant to create long lasting impressions. I believe that as long as learning is fun, learners will be able to connect in ways that perpetuate retention and create lasting experiences.
